Danny Loff is the visionary founder of the Sombrero Festival, established in 1986 to enhance the Charro Days celebration and unite the Brownsville community. His designs for the 1986 and 1987 festival shirts set the tone for the event's vibrant identity. The first design, featuring the iconic sombrero logo, symbolized unity and the festival’s cultural roots. In 1987, Danny expanded on his vision, incorporating bold colors and the year ‘87 to reflect the festival’s growth and evolving energy. As the founder, Danny's legacy lives on through the festival's enduring traditions, its support for local non-profits, and its role in bringing generations together to celebrate music, food, and fun.
1986
The first-ever Sombrero Festival shirt, designed by Danny Loff in 1986, is known as 'The Original Sombrero.' This design features a clean and simple sombrero graphic, representing unity and the festival's connection to Brownsville’s Charro Days celebration. The bold yet minimalist design set the tone for the festival's branding and became a timeless symbol of its cultural and community significance.
1987
In 1987, Danny Loff expanded on his original vision with the 'Charro Days Connection' shirt. This design retained the iconic sombrero as its centerpiece while incorporating vibrant red and green accents, reflecting the lively atmosphere of the festival. The addition of the year ‘87 symbolized the festival’s expansion and growing community support.
